President Nana Akufo-Addo has said Ghana no longer has an excuse for being poor after attaining independence some 60 years ago.
According to him although the nation has had some high points in its journey to success, the lows have outshined the achievements.
In his maiden speech after his investiture Saturday, the President told Ghanaians through parliament that he will lead Ghana to its destiny and place of pride.
“I am deeply humbled by the exceptional mandate and extraordinary show of confidence that the Ghanaian people have reposed in me and my party the New Patriotic Party.
“I am determined do all in my power to justify the expectation and accomplish the mandate. ..Our journey has had some highs and unfortunately many lows.
“We no longer have any excuses for being poor…I stand here to lead this country as president to meet our collective expectations,” he said.
Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is a legal luminary, politician and a businessman. He won the 2016 polls after trying for the third time. He contested and lost in 2008 and 2012. Nana Addo was elected three times between 1996 and 2008 as Member of Parliament for the Abuakwa South constituency in the Eastern region of Ghana. He served his nation from 2001 to 2007 as Cabinet Minister, Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, and later as Foreign Minister during the government led by President John Agyekum Kufuor.
