John Dramani Mahama has announced that Ghana and Saint Kitts and Nevis have expanded their visa waiver agreement to include holders of ordinary passports, marking a significant step in strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between the two countries.
The new arrangement extends an earlier agreement that applied only to holders of service and diplomatic passports. With the expansion, ordinary passport holders from both countries will be able to travel without visas.
The agreement was signed during the state visit of the Prime Minister of the Caribbean nation, Terrance Michael Drew, to Ghana.
In addition to the visa waiver extension, the two countries also signed a Bilateral Labour Agreement that will facilitate the recruitment of Ghanaian medical professionals to Saint Kitts and Nevis. Other areas of cooperation include research, youth empowerment and innovation.
President Mahama said the visa-free arrangement would deepen people-to-people relations and create new opportunities for tourism, trade and investment between Ghana and the Caribbean nation.
Prime Minister Drew described Ghana as a strategic gateway for strengthening cooperation between Africa and the Caribbean.
According to him, relations between Ghana and Saint Kitts and Nevis go beyond historical ties and continue to evolve with a focus on future collaboration.
He noted that the new agreements will help expand cooperation in key sectors while strengthening diplomatic and economic engagement between the two countries.
