Africa Center for Digital Transformation (ACfDT) says Ghana’s 5G Network ambition amidst the ongoing power crisis in the country is another flashpoint for corruption.
According to them, the 5G is designed to support fast networking speeds for IoT devices.
In a statement, the group further explained that power outages will degrade the quality of service for 5G users if the government does not fix the power crisis first.
“We recognize the importance of addressing the power crisis to ensure the successful implementation of the 5G telephony service by Next Gen InfraCo, therefore we seek to draw the attention of the government of Ghana to immediately prioritize the following, else it will be another avenue to “create loot and share”.
“The government of Ghana must focus its immediate efforts on the upgrading and expansion of electricity infrastructure to improve reliability and reduce the frequency of power outages.
“Explore renewable energy solutions such as solar, and wind power to supplement traditional hydro-power sources and enhance the resilience of the power grid.
“Strengthen the capacity and efficiency of backup power systems for 5G network infrastructure including the deployment of advanced battery technologies and efficient generator systems.”
