A 20-year-old female student of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has been found dead under mysterious circumstances at Hatchland Beach in Cape Coast in the Central Region.
The deceased, identified as Avinu Innocentia, a second-year student of UCC, was allegedly murdered by unknown persons and her body dumped at the beach.
According to reports, residents who visited the beach in the early hours of the day discovered the lifeless body of the young lady lying half-naked on the shore and immediately alerted the police.
Eyewitnesses said blood was seen oozing from her nose, while one of her breasts had allegedly been severed, raising suspicions that she may have been subjected to a brutal attack before her death.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased had been missing for some days before the discovery of her body.
Sources close to the victim disclosed that before she went missing, she had informed some friends that she was going to meet a wealthy friend.
The family of the deceased later reported the matter to the police and identified photographs of the body as that of Avinu Innocentia.
The Dean of Students of the University of Cape Coast was informed about the incident and, together with police officers and family members of the deceased, proceeded to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital Mortuary, where the body was formally identified by her relatives.
The Central Regional Crime Scene Management Team subsequently visited the scene to gather evidence and commence investigations into the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.
Police say no arrests have been made so far, and investigations are ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital Mortuary pending an autopsy.
