Government has completed rural electrification projects in 13 communities within the Central Gonja District of the Savannah Region, marking another step toward Ghana’s goal of achieving universal electricity access.
In a statement, the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition said the initiative demonstrates government’s commitment to improving living standards in rural areas by ensuring access to reliable and affordable electricity under the National Electrification Scheme.
The beneficiary communities are Zomlampe, Nikpegu, Torope, Dokope, Kpatinyan, Darivogupe, Bagpe, Dawunipe, Diwurupe, Larigbani, Mammudupe, Sankaupe, and Nyinyape.
Ahead of the commissioning scheduled for Saturday, October 11, 2025, Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, reaffirmed government’s determination to deliver inclusive energy access that supports social and economic development.
“Electricity is not just about lighting homes; it is about powering opportunity, driving enterprise, and transforming lives,” the Minister said.
“Through projects like this, we are delivering on our promise to make energy the bedrock of Ghana’s green and inclusive development.”
According to the Ministry, the electrification initiative will boost local economic growth by supporting small-scale enterprises, schools, health facilities, and community development programs across the 13 newly connected areas.
The project forms part of government’s broader rural electrification agenda, which seeks to expand electricity coverage nationwide and advance Ghana’s transition toward renewable and clean energy solutions.
The commissioning ceremony will bring together traditional authorities, local government officials, representatives of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo), members of the Central Gonja District Assembly, and residents of the beneficiary communities.
