The Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, has asked for true partnerships where all countries will have an equal voice.
Speaking at the Global Gateway forum in Brussels on Thursday, October 9, 2025, Prof. Naana Opoku Agyemang said that although Ghana is open for cooperation, it would, however, not take unfair partnerships.
“Is it a partnership where you have no voice? Is it a partnership where you don’t even decide how much you are selling your own goods for? These are the fundamental things we think deserve world dialogue,” she said.
She said it’s about time Africans seize the moment of power shifting in history and become self-reliant and agents of change to improve their economic conditions.
“We need to move ourselves from a situation where we have been for too long a battleground for the ambitions of others. It’s a question of processing your own resources, your own primary commodities, and entering the market on good terms on equal terms so that the real peace of the world will be realized.”
President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, in the keynote address at the Global Gateway Forum on Day One, emphasized the need to strengthen partnerships in a rapidly changing global economy.
She highlighted the forum’s focus on advancing global connectivity, mobilizing investments, and promoting sustainable development.

She said EU’s Global Gateway initiative has already mobilized over €306 billion in investments, exceeding its initial target of €300 billion by 2027.
Von der Leyen also stressed the importance of genuine partnerships based on respect, shared interests, and long-term commitment, citing the EU’s collaborations with partner countries in Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
The Global Gateway Forum brings together leaders from the EU and around the world to discuss investment needs, debate solutions, and launch new partnerships.
