Deputy Minister of Energy Incharge of Finance and Infrastructure, Joseph Cudjoe has hinted of the Akufo Addo’s led administration intention to put in place measures and strategies to develop Ghana’s nascent oil and gas sector.
Mr Cudjoe gave the hint while delivering the closing remarks at the 6th edition of the three days Local Content Conference and Exhibition for the upstream sector in Western Region’s city of Takoradi on the theme: “Maximizing in-country Value Addition: the role of Indigenous Ghanaian Companies (IGCs) in Joint Ventures (JVs) in the Upstream Petroleum Sector.”
Mr Cudjoe who also doubles as the Member of Parliament for Effia in the Western Region, assured the Petroleum Commission of his ministry and that of President’s support to regulate the oil and gas sector without fear or fair to attract more investors.
“Government will continue to develop skill in the industry to ensure local capacity is built, the training of five Ghanaians by GE-Baker Hughes estimated at the cost of about $250,000 as part of the support for the Accelerated Oil and Gas Capacity Programme is a clear example apart from that “We have also heard loaded ideas which give input to policy formulation going forward to help our local content administration.” Mr Cudjoe told the participants.
The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Commission, Egbert Faibille Jnr, in his closing remarks was elated about the successful conference and stated that in order to ensure that the conference does not become a talk shop but an action and result oriented platform, the 2020’s edition would have a session mainly devoted to action points.
Meanwhile, the Executive Director for the Ghana Oil and Gas Service Providers Association,(GOGSPA) Nuertey Adzeman has welcome the move by the Petroleum Commission to crack down on indigenous oil and gas companies engaged in fronting
The association which has the sole aim to promote the interests and integrity of oil and gas service providers in Ghana, to ensure that they carry out their activities to the highest professional standards said the move is long overdue.
