Atiwa East DCE commends Education Minister for assuring response to Sekyere SDA SHS infrastructure crisis

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atiwa East, Ernest Owusu Ntim, has commended the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, for his prompt response and commitment to addressing the critical infrastructure challenges facing Sekyere SDA Senior High School and other schools in the district.

The commendation follows a recent meeting between the DCE and the Education Minister at the Ministry of Education in Accra, where Mr. Owusu Ntim presented the pressing educational infrastructure needs of Atiwa East.

Among the major concerns raised was the worsening situation at Sekyere SDA SHS, where inadequate infrastructure is affecting effective teaching and learning. The school is grappling with shortages of classrooms, dormitories, an assembly hall, dining hall, computer laboratory and staff bungalows.

The rapid increase in student enrolment under the Free SHS policy has placed enormous pressure on the school’s limited facilities, resulting in severe congestion and making it difficult to accommodate all students.

According to the DCE, the accommodation deficit has become so acute that some students placed at the school have been unable to enrol because of the lack of boarding facilities.

Mr. Owusu Ntim also appealed to the Minister to expedite the completion of several stalled Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) projects across the district. These include dormitory, classroom and dining hall projects at the Anyinam Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Complex, as well as the abandoned primary school project at Adasawase Methodist School.

He further highlighted infrastructure deficits and classroom congestion affecting schools in Enyiresi and Sekyere, stressing that completing the projects would significantly improve access to quality education and create a more conducive learning environment.

The DCE described the completion of the stalled projects as a top priority for the Atiwa East District Assembly, noting that modern educational facilities are essential to improving learning outcomes and supporting the government’s education agenda.

Responding to the concerns, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu commended the DCE for his proactive engagement and assured him that the Ministry would give priority attention to the district’s infrastructure needs.

The Minister pledged to facilitate the reactivation of the stalled GETFund projects and take steps to address the challenges affecting Sekyere SDA SHS and other schools in Atiwa East.

Mr. Owusu Ntim expressed appreciation to the Minister for his swift intervention and optimism that the government’s commitment would bring lasting relief to students, teachers and the wider school communities across the district.
