The Children’s Support Fund established in memory of the eight victims of the August 6 helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region has now accrued GH¢3,576,600 and US$20,000.
This was announced in a statement signed by Dr. Valerie Sawyerr, Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs and Coordinator of the Fund on Friday, August 29.
She reaffirmed government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of the victims’ children.
The Fund, announced by President John Dramani Mahama at the state funeral on August 15, will provide comprehensive support covering education from basic through tertiary level, as well as healthcare, clothing, housing, insurance, and other essential needs.
President Mahama described the initiative as a lasting tribute to the sacrifice of the fallen.
The latest update lists contributions from a wide range of corporate bodies and individuals, including Ghana Airports Ltd, ARB Apex Bank PLC, STL Foundation, Olam Agric, Fidelity Bank, ADB Bank, GLICO General Insurance, and the National Insurance Commission.
Earlier, Stanbic Bank Ghana seeded the Fund with GHS 500,000 and opened dedicated accounts at its Heights Branch in Accra for both cedi and dollar donations.
The government has pledged additional contributions and promised to publish a full framework for the Fund’s management and accountability measures within 30 days.
Government has expressed its gratitude to all donors and continues to call for further contributions from individuals, companies, and professional associations to ensure sustained support for the children.
