Akwatia by-election: Global InfoAnalytics projects NDC victory with 53%

A new Global Info Analytics poll projects an NDC victory in the September 2 Akwatia by-election, with Bernard Bediako Baidoo leading NPP’s Solomon Asumadu by 53% to 47%

A fresh survey by Global InfoAnalytics has tipped the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Bernard Bediako Baidoo, as the frontrunner in the upcoming Akwatia by-election slated for Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

The poll, conducted between August 27 and 28 among 2,050 registered voters in the constituency, puts Baidoo ahead with 53 percent of the vote, while his closest contender, Solomon Kwame Asumadu of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), secured 47 percent.

In a Facebook update, Mussa Dankwah, Executive Director and Head of Research at Global InfoAnalytics, explained that Baidoo’s surge is being fueled largely by younger voters, particularly those in senior high schools and tertiary institutions, as well as constituents pushing for more development.

He noted that under the group’s “committed model,” which represents the minimum vote share expected, Baidoo still maintains the same 53–47 lead over Asumadu.

The Akwatia seat became vacant following the sudden death of Ernest Yaw Kumi, who previously represented the constituency in Parliament.

The by-election will feature three contenders: Asumadu for the NPP, Baidoo for the NDC, and Owusu Patrick representing the Liberal People’s Party (LPG).

Security concerns remain high, as the Eastern South Regional Police Command recently arrested ten suspects and retrieved nine weapons in separate operations ahead of the polls.

Despite the poll’s projections, both the NPP and NDC remain confident of victory in what is expected to be a closely fought contest.
