Former National Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Siidi Abubakar Musah, has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to shift its focus to rebuilding for the 2032 general elections, arguing that the 2028 race is already unwinnable for the governing party.
In a statement, Musah said the NPP’s current crop of flagbearer hopefuls are all weighed down by their association with the Akufo-Addo administration’s economic record, which he described as disastrous in the eyes of many Ghanaians.
They are Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Kwabena Agyepong
“Bawumia’s personal association with the economic policies of the Akufo-Addo administration makes him particularly vulnerable to these criticisms. His political capital is not only depleted but bankrupt.
Without the scaffolding of power to prop him up, his vulnerabilities are exposed for all to see. He cannot stand against an energized NDC flagbearer on a national platform. The optics are wrong, the message is weak, and the momentum is gone,” Musah wrote.
He argued that none of the NPP aspirants can credibly present themselves as a break from their administration’s failures, making the party unelectable in 2028.
Instead, he advised the NPP to focus on “grooming a new face” with the humility, authenticity, and energy to reconnect with disillusioned voters and restless youth.
“The party must start planting now for a possible harvest in 2032, because 2028 is already lost if this is the best they have to offer. Political careers built on convenience rather than conviction are inherently fragile and vulnerable to changing circumstances,” he added.
Meanwhile, the NPP’s presidential elections committee has confirmed that five aspirants have officially filed their nominations to contest the party’s flagbearer slot ahead of the January 31, 2026 primaries.
The party has assured members of a transparent and credible process.
