Former Member of Parliament for Kumbungu, Ras Mubarak has urged the leadership of the NDC to fish out Members of Parliament (MPs) on the Minority side who voted against the party’s position.
According to him, the Minority MPs must be sanctioned to serve as a deterrent for others in future events in the chamber.
This comes on the back of the approval of all the six ministerial nominees by the President on Friday March 24, 2023 through secret balloting in the chamber.
At the end of secret voting, Kwabena Tahir Hammond who is the nominee to the Trade and Industry Ministry secured 154 Yes, 116 No votes. Mr. Bryan Acheampong, nominee to the Ministry of Agriculture had 167 Yes, 98 No votes and the rest of the nominees namely Stephen Asamoah Boateng, Mohammed Amin Adam, O.B Amoah and Dr. Stephen Amoah was all voted for by majority decision.
Speaking on the Morning Starr with Francis Abban Monday the former MP described the situation as unfortunate and advised the NDC leadership to try and get to the bottom of the matter.
“What happened last Friday was one of the worst treacheries or acts that I have seen against the country Ghana. We all know that the economy is in tatters and this is a result of this government’s incompetent and the President’s refusal to heed the calls of Ghanaians to reduce the size of the government.
“So the only institution that forms the pillar in displaying an unwillingness and to listen to the cry of the people is Parliament. So the larger session of Ghanaians felt Parliament had a very special opportunity to bring in on the President some checks on some of the excesses,” Mr. Mubarak stated.
He continued: “Unfortunately, rather sadly a group of MPs from the NDC stock decided to put their petty parochial interest above the national interest. They decided that they will stab all Ghanaians on the back. Ghanaians were looking up to them to deliver. Ghanaians were looking up to them to rise up to the occasion and do the right thing. It is disgraceful and I think that the party must do everything to hunt down these groups of rogue MPs who have decided that their personal interest was well above national interest.”
