I won’t neglect Volta region – Akufo-Addo

President-elect, Nana Akufo-Addo has assured the chiefs and people of the Volta region that, the area will not be forgotten under his presidency.

According to him, though the region is the stronghold of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), it has contributed significantly to the massive victory of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the just ended presidential and parliamentary polls held on Wednesday 7 December, 2016.

“I want to thank the Chief’s and people of this region for your support and help during the election. I am particularly pleased that the votes of my party in this region has appreciated and we now have a parliamentary seat. This is certainly unprecedented,” said Akufo-Addo.

The President-elect, was speaking at a ceremony in Ho to honour Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State on his election as the President of the National House of Chiefs on Saturday.

Accompanied by his Vice, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and some party Stalwarts, Akufo-Addo said, his government will never forget the important lessons of 2016 election, which is; Ghanaians will punish impunity and corruption, as they expect improvements in their standard of living.

He also extolled and expressed confidence in the leadership qualities of Togbe Afede to spearhead the modernisation of the chieftaincy institution in the country.

Togbe Afede on his part noted that, his election and that of Akufo-Addo to lead the chieftaincy institution and the country respectively at this particular moment, was a divine orchestration, for the two of them to work together to ensure development and prosperity for Ghanaians.

“Province has brought us together and we share an important privilege and obligation. We have no choice than to collaborate to bring prosperity to our people,” he said.

He called for the support of all towards the realisation of the change agenda.

The colourful ceremony was graced by some paramount chiefs from the Volta region, including, Togbega Gabusu of Gbi traditional area, Togbui Amenya Fiti of Aflao traditional area, Togbe Sri, Awomefia of Anlo State, as well as a government delegation led by the Deputy Volta regional minister, Mr. Francis Ganyaglo.

The Paramount chief of Nortsie, in the republic of Togo, Togbui Agorkoli V also sent special fraternal messages to both Togbe Afede and the President-elect Akufo-Addo.
