Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has assured Ghanaians that he will continue implementing the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) if given the nod.
This pledge comes as a relief to many who feared the new government might abandon the DRIP equipment, which was procured by the previous NPP government.
Although the equipment was bought by the NPP, it is now state property, and experts believe it can be utilized to enhance road networks across various constituencies as it aims to achieve.
During his vetting on Tuesday, January 21, Ahmed Ibrahim assured that, if confirmed, he would work to ensure the successful continuation of the DRIP project.
He emphasized that the equipment, which was procured with significant financial investment, is state property and should not be allowed to go to waste.
Ibrahim stressed the importance of proper structures, agreements, monitoring, and systems to ensure the effective use of the DRIP equipment.
He stated, “If given the nod, we will work together to make sure that the DRIP project is materialised because the machines were procured to improve upon district roads that were not tarred and much money was used so you cannot use such an amount and allow it to go to waste.”
“Whether we like it or not, the machines have been procured and we must put them to good use, therefore, there must be proper structures, proper agreement, proper monitoring and systems to make sure that we make good use of the machines that we procured.”
