Former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, says he is grateful for the opportunity to serve Ghana.

This comes on the back of President John Dramani Mahama replacing Dr Dampare with COP Christain Tetteh Yohunu.

In a statement signed by Executive Assistant, Nana Osei Afrifa, Dr. Dampare is overwhelmed by the considerable show of love and support that he has received from many loved ones and well-wishers across the country and the rest of the world, especially over the last 24 hours.

“He wishes to express his heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the former President, H.E. Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo for giving him the opportunity to serve our nation as the Inspector-General of Police and for making history as the youngest IGP in the 4th Republic.

“He is also grateful to the current President, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, for his cordial working relationship in the short time that they worked together”, the statement added.

Below is the full statement

Statement By Dr George Akuffo Dampare

14th March 2025

  1. With reference to the Press Statement issued on Thursday March 13, 2025, signed by The Minister for Government Communications, announcing his replacement, the former Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, wishes to express his heartfelt gratitude to the Almighty God and the good people of Ghana for their prayers, blessings and support during his time in office.
  2. He is overwhelmed by the considerable show of love and support that he has received from many loved ones and well-wishers, across the country and the rest of the world, especially over the last 24 hours.
  3. He wishes to express his heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the former President, H.E. Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo for giving him the opportunity to serve our nation as the Inspector-General of Police and for making history as the youngest IGP in the 4th Republic. He is also grateful to the current President, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, for his cordial working relationship in the short time that they worked together.
  4. He expresses his appreciation to the various Religious and Traditional leaders for their prayers, wisdom and good counsel at all times. Their insights have been indispensable.
  5. He thanks the heads of sister security agencies for the cooperation and steadfast support that they gave him.
  6. He expresses his gratitude to the many Civil Society Organisations for their support and constructive input during his tenure as the IGP
  7. He is grateful to the international community and the various diplomatic missions for their support, encouragement, reviews and engagements.
  8. He is particularly grateful for the opportunity to serve the Ghana Police Service for the past 35 years; rising in rank from a General Constable to Inspector-General of Police, being the youngest Commissioner of Police as well as the youngest IGP in the 4th Republic. His many years in the service gave him the opportunity to serve as Director-General of almost all departments and a record two stints as DG/Welfare and DG/Administration. He remains grateful to the Police Management Board (POMAB) as well as the rank and file and wishes everyone well.
  9. Being given the Rank of Inspector-General of Police, the highest rank attainable for any police officer, gave him an incredible opportunity to serve. The contribution that the Rank and File of the Ghana Police Service has made to Security, Law and Order during his tenure has been enormous.
  10. He wishes to express his continuous commitment to Ghana, our beloved country, and his willingness to serve the nation that he loves. He has served the Ghana Police Service for 35 out of his nearly 55 years of life with an unblemished record. He remains energetic, committed and enthusiastic about serving his nation with discipline, honour and integrity.
