Thirteen-year-old Jeffery Adjei Boakye, six days after his plight was highlighted in the media by GHOne TV, has successfully undergone a kidney transplant in India following a $40,000 sponsorship by businessman and philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama.

The life-saving surgery was performed on July 24, 2026, and according to Jeffery’s mother, Jenet Koraman Kumi, the young boy is responding positively to treatment and medication.

Jeffery, a Grade Seven pupil at Zion Praise Educational Complex at Maduma in the Ashanti Region, had been battling end-stage kidney disease and urgently required financial support to undergo the transplant.

His condition gained national attention after it was featured by GHOne TV’s Ashanti Regional Correspondent, Isaac Justice Bediako, on April 10, 2026, across EIB Network platforms.

At the time, Jeffery was receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), where specialists determined that a kidney transplant offered his best chance of survival.

He had been undergoing haemodialysis three times a week to manage his deteriorating condition while his family searched for financial assistance.

Moved by the media report, Ibrahim Mahama intervened six days after the story aired by providing the full $40,000 needed to finance the transplant in India.

Medical personnel at KATH subsequently facilitated preparations for Jeffery’s travel and surgery abroad.
Speaking after the successful operation, Mrs. Kumi expressed profound appreciation to Mr. Mahama for what she described as a life-saving gesture.

She also commended GHOne TV for bringing her son’s condition to public attention, saying the media coverage played a crucial role in attracting the support that ultimately saved his life.

Before receiving the donation, Mrs. Kumi had appealed to the public for assistance, explaining that Jeffery was born prematurely with congenital abnormalities affecting his urinary tract.

She said the condition gradually progressed into chronic kidney disease before developing into end-stage renal failure affecting both kidneys.

Although doctors say Jeffery remains vulnerable to infections because of his weakened immune system, they are optimistic that the successful transplant will significantly improve his health and long-term recovery.

Jeffery’s story has become a powerful example of how media advocacy, philanthropy and timely medical intervention can combine to transform lives, offering renewed hope to families facing critical health challenges.
