The Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, in collaboration with the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA), has commenced the second phase of a skills training programme aimed at equipping young people and women in the constituency with practical skills for self-employment.
The three-day training, which began on Monday, August 24, 2026, is being held in Half Assini, the municipal capital of the Jomoro Municipality, and is expected to end on Wednesday, August 26.
A total of 150 participants are benefiting from the programme, which focuses on four areas: fruit juice processing, beads making, livestock farming and fish farming.
The organisers said the selected areas are intended to provide participants with practical entrepreneurial and agricultural skills that can be developed into viable businesses and sustainable sources of income.
Participants are receiving hands-on training designed to equip them with practical knowledge that can be applied beyond the classroom.
The fruit juice processing and beads-making components are focused on value addition and creative enterprise, while the livestock and fish farming sessions are aimed at strengthening participants’ capacity in agricultural production.
Speaking on the importance of the programme, Godwin Alluekeh, Personal Assistant to Madam Affo-Toffey and coordinator of the programme, said empowering young people and women with employable and entrepreneurial skills is critical to addressing unemployment and improving household incomes in the municipality.
He said the initiative also seeks to encourage beneficiaries to utilise available local resources and opportunities to establish small businesses rather than rely solely on limited formal employment opportunities.
For beneficiaries, the training is expected to provide a foundation for self-employment and further business development.
The second phase builds on the partnership between the Jomoro MP and the GEA to promote skills acquisition and economic empowerment among constituents.
As the training concludes on Wednesday, participants are expected to complete the practical sessions with knowledge that can be applied to develop businesses in their respective communities.
The organisers expressed the hope that beneficiaries will put the skills acquired into practice, create employment opportunities for themselves and others, and contribute to the socio-economic development of the Jomoro Municipality.
