Vice President Kamala Harris has dismissed recent remarks by Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who implied that Harris is not humble because she does not have biological children. Sanders made the statement during a September town hall for Donald Trump, where she said her own children “keep her humble” and claimed, “Harris doesn’t have anything keeping her humble.”
In response, she called Sanders’ perspective, it “outdated” and not in tune with today’s societal norms. During her appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast on Sunday, Harris remarked, “I don’t think she understands that there are a whole lot of women out here who, one, are not aspiring to be humble. Two, a whole lot of women out here who have a lot of love in their life, family in their life, and children in their life.”
The Vice President who shares a blended family with her husband Doug Emhoff and his two children from a previous marriage, stressed the need to embrace diverse family forms. “We have our family by blood, and then we have our family by love, and I have both, and I consider it to be a real blessing,” she said. “I have two beautiful children, Cole and Ella, who call me Momala. We have a very modern family. My husband’s ex-wife is a friend of mine.”
The vice president also addressed earlier remarks from Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, who criticized women without children by labeling them “childless cat ladies.” Harris condemned Vance’s comments as “mean and mean-spirited,” and emphasized that women should be uplifted regardless of their family situation. “I think it’s really important for women to lift each other up,” she stated.
