Kintampo in the Bono Ahafo region Sunday was plunged into a state of mourning after 19 persons were confirmed dead at the famous Kintampo Waterfalls when heavy trees crashed on them following a rainstorm.

Eyewitnesses say the trees fell from the top of the waterfalls and landed on the people, mostly students engaging in local tourism.

The Headmaster of the Wenchi Senior High School (SHS) said Monday that he lost 16 of his students following the accident.

The Bono Ahafo regional Tourism Manager, Joseph Appiagyei described the debilitating incident as an act of nature.

“Yesterday’s incidence can be said to be a natural disaster. It is not anything that anybody can predict,” he upheld on Morning Starr.

That notwithstanding, the incident got people expressing their condolences on social media.

Former president John Mahama took to twitter to commiserate with the families of the victims of the Kintampo Waterfalls tragedy.
