President John Dramani Mahama of Ghana has appointed Kofi Adams, the Member of Parliament for the Buem Constituency, as the Minister-designate of Sports and Recreation.
This appointment comes after extensive media speculation, which highlighted several potential candidates, including former Odododiodoo MP Nii Lante Vandapuye and Ghana Football Association Executive Council member Dr. Randy Abbey, among others.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, and signed by the Acting Presidential Spokesperson, Mr. Felix Kwakye, confirmed Kofi Adams has been nominated as the Sports Minister, subject to vetting and approval by the Parliamentary Appointments Committee.

Kofi, who is expected to go through vetting, replaces Mustafa Ussif, who served as Minister of Sports from 2021 under the New Patriotic Party led by Nana Akufo-Addo.
The Buem MP is tasked with tackling challenges across the sports sector, including lesser-known disciplines, as well as football, athletics, and other key areas of sports.
