President of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Abraham Kotei Neequaye, has confirmed that the body of the late Nigerian boxer, Gabriel Olanrewaju, will be repatriated to Nigeria next week, following the completion of official documentation.
Speaking in an interview on The Game, Mr. Neequaye revealed that the death certificate has been finalized, marking a significant step toward returning the body to the boxer’s homeland.
“As I speak I’ve done the document, been to birth and death registry national office, from there I’ll go to the ministry to get it” he stated.
He also clarified that the GBA has not sought any financial assistance from the Sports Ministry for the repatriation effort.
“We don’t have any problem with them, we’re on the process we’ll get the body to Nigeria so that is what we’re doing now”.
“Probably by the close of this week we will finish all the documents and next week we’ll send the body”, told GHOne TV.
Mr. Neequaye reaffirmed the GBA’s dedication to managing the situation with dignity and professionalism, adding that the late boxer’s family is receiving the necessary support throughout this difficult time.
