Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) has retrieved three government vehicles previously in the possession of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
This was disclosed by the Chief Executive Officer of MASLOC, Abigail Elorm Mensah in an interview on Citi FM.
According to her, the vehicles, which had been under Chairman Wontumi’s custody for several years, were recovered as part of a nationwide exercise to reclaim state assets and improve accountability.
She explained that repeated correspondence had been sent to the NPP regional chairman before the Centre moved to repossess the cars.
“I have gone with National Security operatives to the house of the Chairman of the NPP in Ashanti Region, Chairman Wontumi. Three cars. In fact, the cars were five. We’ve retrieved three. I have collected all from his house. We are still chasing him for the two. He has to pay for them,” Ms. Mensah stated.
She emphasized that the retrieval aligns with an ongoing audit of MASLOC’s movable and immovable assets, aimed at strengthening operational efficiency and curbing the unlawful retention of government property by individuals.
According to her, the Centre will not allow anyone, regardless of political or social status, to unlawfully keep state assets.
Ms. Mensah assured that the retrieved vehicles would be redirected into MASLOC’s operations to support its microfinance and small business initiatives, stressing that more recoveries are underway.
