A driver at the Ministry of Health has sued a director at the ministry for accusing him of being HIV positive.
According to Edward Ghunney, his boss whom he has driven for many years, accused him of being HIV positive after he had donated during a blood donation exercise in July 2014.
He said after the blood donation exercise, Justina Ansah, who is the director of the National Blood Service, called him to her office and told him that he had tested positive for the virus, a claim he dismissed immediately.
He said since then, Mrs Ansah stopped him from driving her even though subsequent tests sanctioned by her including one from the Central Laboratory proved that he did not have the virus.
In an affidavit to an Accra High Court, Ghunney is demanding a GHC20,000 compensation from the blood service and a letter of apology with copies pasted on the notice board of the service.
He told the Ghanaians Times newspaper “I became traumatized and scornfully looked upon by my working colleagues who avoided me like a plague infested person”.
He added that as a result of the scorn he received from his colleagues, he requested for transfer from his department to another within the blood service.
He said although the summon has been received by the defendant, his lawyers are yet to receive a response.
