Ghanaian musician Mr Drew has shared his views on music royalties, artiste rivalries and his plans to support emerging talents, during a conversation with Krakye on Rythymz Interactive on GHOne TV.
Speaking on music royalties, Mr Drew disclosed that he has not received any royalties, explaining that his concern stems from the experiences and feedback of musicians who have spent more than a decade in the industry.
“I haven’t received any royalties, not because royalties aren’t paid, but because, based on the experiences and reviews of people who have been in the music industry for over 10 years, the returns they’ve received are not encouraging,” he said.
On the issue of artiste beefs, Mr Drew argued that rivalries should serve a meaningful purpose, either by increasing the artistes’ relevance or generating financial benefits.
“I think if we are beefing each other, it should bring us relevance or money,” he stated.
He also proposed an unconventional approach to artiste rivalries, suggesting that companies could invest in organizing boxing matches for musicians involved in beefs, allowing them to compete for cash prizes.

Meanwhile, Mr Drew reaffirmed his commitment to nurturing emerging talents through his record label, revealing plans to sign more underground artistes and help promote their music by offering them free verses.
“I’m definitely signing more underground artistes on my label and helping them push their music by giving them a free verse,” he added.
His comments highlight ongoing conversations about fair compensation in the music industry, the commercial value of artiste rivalries and the need to create more opportunities for emerging musicians.
