EIB Network’s Legal Affairs Correspondent, Murtala Inusah, has been adjudged the Overall Best Court Correspondent of the Year at the 2026 JUSAG Media Awards.

The awards were held as part of activities marking the climax of the 2nd Quadrennial Delegates Conference of the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) in Tamale.

In a double honour for the veteran court reporter, his flagship daily segment on GHOne TV and Starr FM, ‘Court Today’, was also adjudged the Best Court Reporting News Platform in the country for its accurate, consistent, in-depth and educative coverage of judicial proceedings.

The latest recognition marks the second consecutive time JUSAG has honoured Murtala Inusah for his contribution to court reporting.

In 2024, he was honoured as Best Court Correspondent during JUSAG’s 50th Anniversary celebration in Cape Coast on September 21, in recognition of his commitment to ethics and professionalism in journalism.

Beyond his work in the newsroom, Murtala Inusah brings considerable academic and professional expertise to his reporting. He is an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Practitioner, a law student at the University of Ghana and an Ambassador for the Institute of Paralegal Training and Leadership Studies (IPLS).

His legal training and professional experience have strengthened his ability to explain complex court rulings, judgments and legal procedures in ways that are accessible to the general public.

Through his reportage, he has increasingly positioned himself as a bridge between the bench, the bar and the public, helping audiences better understand developments within Ghana’s justice system.

Murtala Inusah reports for GHOne TV, Starr FM, Kasapa FM and other platforms under the EIB Network. He is also among the pioneer members of the 27-member Judicial Press Corps, which was inaugurated by former Chief Justice Anin Yeboah.

He has covered Ghana’s courts for more than a decade, reporting on major constitutional, criminal and civil cases.

Colleagues describe him as calm, hardworking, accurate and resilient in the field. His commitment to court reporting has also seen him endure challenges in the line of duty, including an assault in October 2024 while covering a high-profile case at the Accra Circuit Court.

The incident was strongly condemned by JUSAG as an attack on press freedom and democracy.

The 2026 JUSAG Media Awards formed part of activities marking the association’s 2nd Quadrennial Delegates Conference, which brought together delegates from across the country to elect new national and regional executives.

The media awards scheme was instituted by the current JUSAG administration, led by Samuel Afotey Otu, to recognise journalists who have dedicated their time to explaining court processes and promoting effective justice delivery.

Other journalists were also recognised across various media categories.

Barbara Kumah of GTV was named Best Court Correspondent of the Year (Public Media – TV), while Ama Brako Ampofo of Angel TV/Angel FM won Best Court Correspondent of the Year (Akan Language).

In the print category, Razak Gibril Abdul of Daily Guide was adjudged Best Court Correspondent of the Year (Private Print Media), while Justice Agbenorsi of the Daily Graphic won Best Court Correspondent of the Year (Public Print Media).

Joyce Danso of the Ghana News Agency (GNA) was named Best Court Correspondent of the Year (Online/News Agency).

In a special honorary category, Wilberforce Asare, Dean of the Judicial Press Corps, received a Special Honorary Award for his dedication and 10 years of distinguished leadership of the Corps.

The recognition of Murtala Inusah and the other award recipients underscores the important role of specialised court journalism in promoting public understanding of the justice system, accountability and access to information.
