Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah has dismissed a viral video showing his apparent inability to name five hospitals built by the NPP government in the Ashanti Region as “fake news,” and has issued a challenge to his critics.
Speaking on GHOne TV with Serwaa Amihere, Hon. Osei-Mensah not only defended his government’s record but also vowed to resign if the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) can name one hospital project started and completed under their tenure.
“Because I’ve told them, and I’ve put this question almost two years, and I’m so happy to tell you this, if they can give me one single hospital, whether they inherited or they initiated as an issue, completed, centrally accepted, I’ll resign. If they tell me just now, I’ll resign, just now. Just one, just one, I’ll resign,” Osei-Mensah declared.
Mr. Osei-Mensah was seen in a viral video being unable to mention at least five hospital projects done by his administration in the Ashanti region.
This has created the impression that the Akufo-Addo’s government has neglected and not performed in the Ashanti region.
By dismissing the video as fake and issuing a counter-challenge, the Regional Minister aims to shift the focus from the perceived fake video to a broader assessment of the NPP’s developmental record in the health sector.
Mr. Osei-Mensah explained that the inability to immediately recall specific project names during the video’s recording does not reflect a lack of progress.
He emphasized the considerable development undertaken by the government, including numerous ongoing health projects.
The Minister’s promise to resign adds a significant element of accountability, emphasizing his confidence in the government’s achievements while putting the responsibility on his critics to substantiate their claims.
