The Chief Executive Officer of Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF), Dr. Saajida Shiraz has confirmed that over 40,000 students in Ghana’s public tertiary institutions have already received financial reimbursements under the government’s ‘No Fees Stress’ policy.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, July 10, 2025, Dr. Shiraz describe the achievement as a significant milestone in the implementation of the equity-focused initiative.
“A total of 40,233 students have now been reimbursed,” she stated. “More students are being validated, and will be reimbursed after pre-audits.”
The ‘No Fees Stress’ policy is a key education reform introduced by President John Dramani Mahama, aimed at eliminating academic-related fees for all first-year students in public tertiary institutions.
It was officially launched in Koforidua on July 4, 2025.
President Mahama, during the launch emphasized that the initiative was both a developmental necessity and a constitutional obligation.
Since the policy’s rollout, more than 148,000 students have accessed the No Fees Stress portal, with 124,338 completing the application process.
Tertiary institutions have submitted enrollment data for over 135,000 students, with nearly 50,000 already validated for reimbursement.
Reaffirming the SLTF’s commitment to the policy, Dr. Shiraz said every element of President Mahama’s promise would be fulfilled.
The policy is expected to significantly reduce financial barriers to higher education and create a more inclusive and supportive system for Ghana’s youth.
