The family of Stephen Ayensu Ntim, National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has formally requested that he be temporarily excused from all party-related duties due to serious health challenges.
In a letter dated Monday, June 16, 2025, and addressed to the Chairman of the NPP Council of Elders, the family cited Mr. Ntim’s deteriorating health condition, describing it as involving “cognitive dissonance and mental incapacitation.”
The letter was signed by Kingsley Oteng (Family Head), Adelaide Ntim (MP for Nsuta/Kwaman Beposo), and other close relatives. It expressed deep concern over Mr. Ntim’s continued involvement in active party affairs despite his current health condition.
The family specifically objected to his expected participation as chair of a high-level NPP meeting scheduled for Tuesday, June 17, at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, describing the development as “deeply saddening” and “in violation of his personal rights.”
“Common sense dictates that, Steve, as a matter of urgency, be temporarily excused not only from the rigors of active politics but from intra-party activities in order to make way for needed peace and solace and for concentration on the ongoing required medical treatment process,” the statement read.

According to the family, Mr. Ntim’s involvement in the upcoming party meeting; despite being known within party circles that he is unwell; would not only endanger his health but also amount to “a wrong move” that undermines his dignity.
They further urged the party’s leadership to prioritise his well-being, adding that even mere participation in the meeting “will not augur well for Steve due to his current cognitive dissonance and mental incapacitation.”
The family also appealed to the party’s hierarchy and stakeholders to excuse Mr. Ntim from “impending meetings and events in the near future” as his treatment and future plans remain under review.
While recognising his long-standing service; from First National Deputy Chairman to his current role; the family stressed that Mr. Ntim’s health and recovery must now take precedence.
As of the time of publication, the NPP has not officially responded to the family’s letter.
