Political analyst, Dr. Kwame Asah-Asante has expressed concern over the lack of food in Senior High Schools, attributing the issue to poor planning and a lack of proper organization by the government.
Speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Deide Tettey, Dr. Asante emphasized the urgent need for accountability in addressing the crisis.
He pointed out that the communication from the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), advising students to bring their own food, reflects a severe gap in proper planning.
“The NPP did not organize that sector well. We always experience a lot of problems, either in the area of insufficient food or the lack of supply, and other issues that should be handled with a snap of a finger. They kept deceiving the public that all was well.
“I am sure the government is working on it. I know definitely the government will not sit down. Because children are going to school, and this is the information from CHASS: bring your food. They will work on that. They will have to work with dispatch on that,” he stated.
Dr. Asah Asante accused the government of deceiving the public by claiming that all was well when it clearly was not, and he also stressed the importance of building a culture of accountability where citizens are encouraged to speak out about wrongs in society.
“They kept deceiving the public that all is well. What is so worrying is that those in the sector are free to speak and speak their minds, yet we are here today dealing with this crisis. Let us build that culture and get up and speak about things that are wrong. When we shy away from that responsibility and leave it in the hands of a few people who refuse to speak, the state will collapse. And that is not what we bargained for,” he urged.
He further warned that if leaders are not held accountable, they will continue to take advantage of the public.
“If we don’t muster the courage to hold leaders accountable, they will always take us for a ride. This time around, nobody is going to sit down. That time is over,” he said.
