A group of over 200 former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) have dismissed reports claiming they endorsed Kennedy Agyapong’s bid to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2028 general elections.
This clarification came during a press briefing held on Monday, June 23, 2025, following a closed-door engagement between the former MMDCEs and former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Addressing the media, former Adentan MCE, Ebenezer Doku, categorically denied any formal endorsement of Kennedy Agyapong during a recent gathering at his residence.
“I was there myself, but we did not hold any support. His assertion that over 250 came to endorse him is false. Today, we are reading a statement on behalf of all us. There was no statement about read at Kennedy Agyapong’s house. We spoke, we wined, and we left,” Doku explained.

He added, “Today we are throwing our support with a statement.”
Earlier reports had claimed that 268 former MMDCEs had thrown their support behind Kennedy Agyapong during a visit to his private residence in Accra on Thursday, June 19, 2025.
The supposed endorsement was described as a major boost to Agyapong’s presidential ambitions, with claims that the former MMDCEs backed him based on his experience and leadership.
The NPP’s National Council has officially set January 31, 2026, as the date for its presidential primaries, setting the stage for a competitive race among top contenders including Dr. Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong, and others.
