The 12-member committee established by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ghana’s largest opposition party, is set to present its much-anticipated report to the party’s National Executive Committee today.
Chaired by former Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Mike Oquaye, the committee was tasked with evaluating the party’s performance in the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections. Over the past three months, the committee has examined the party’s internal electoral processes, campaign strategies, and key challenges that contributed to its electoral defeat.
The report is expected to include actionable recommendations aimed at revamping the party’s strategy ahead of future elections.
The NPP suffered a significant loss in the 2024 elections, with former President John Dramani Mahama of the NDC securing a decisive victory. Mahama garnered 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55% of the total valid votes cast, while the NPP’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, obtained 4,657,304 votes (41.61%).
Party stalwarts, including former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, are attending today’s high-level meeting to review and discuss the committee’s findings.
