The sacked CEO of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Dr. Stephen Opuni, is to blame for the humiliating defeat suffered by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in last month’s polls, the party’s Greater Accra regional Organiser has alleged.
Speaking on Monday on Accra-based Citi FM Anthony Nukpenu noted that Dr Opuni’s role “has also caused our defeat.”
“I have friends, workers of the COCOBOD who told me in the face that; we are not going to vote for you people in 2016 because you created a monster between us and our CEO therefore we will not vote for NPP, but we will not vote NDC either,” he added.
He said gurus in the party are livid with the conduct of Dr. Opuni when he was the CEO of the COCOBOD.
“They are even more dangerous than me talking,” he said.
President Nana Akufo-Addo last week directed Dr. Opuni to vacate his post as CEO of COCOBOD.
A letter dated January 12, 2017 from the Executive Secretary to the President Nana Asante Bediatuo gave the him 5pm Friday, January 13, 2017 to leave office.
He has been directed to handover office property by the stipulated time.
According to the letter, “Pursuant to section 14 (1) of the Presidential (Transition) Act 2012, (Act 845) and paragraph 6 of schedule thereto, you ceased to hold office as Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board upon assumption of office of his Excellency the president of the Republic.”
Until his appointment in 2013, Dr Opuni was the Chief Executive Officer of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA). He has been asked to handover to the President’s representative at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto.
