Two persons have been arrested following investigation into the violent disturbances that marred the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun earlier held on Friday, July 11, 2025.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, July 23, the Accra Regional Police Command confirmed the arrests of Musah Muntari, a 46-year-old Station Manager with STC, and Ali Saeed, also known as Mboma, a 43-year-old businessman.
According to the police, both men are currently in custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations.
“The police remain committed to ensuring that everyone involved in acts of violence, intimidation, or misconduct during the rerun is held accountable,” the statement noted.
It also encouraged the public to support the investigation by providing credible information through hotlines 18555 or 191.
The Ablekuma North by-election, conducted on Friday, July 11, was necessitated by unresolved voter verification challenges during the December 2024 general elections, which left the constituency unrepresented in Parliament.
However, the election day was anything but peaceful. Chaos erupted when the NPP’s Hawa Koomson and many others were allegedly assaulted.
Suspected political thugs stormed the area, attacking party representatives and journalists.
The Ghana Police Service and the security agencies have vowed to ensure justice prevail, asserting that the John Dramani Mahama government will not tolerate any form of violence regardless of political affiliations.
