The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested 45-year-old Isaac Boafo, popularly known as “Duabo King,” for allegedly publishing false news with the intent to cause fear and panic.
The arrest followed the circulation of a viral TikTok video in which Boafo claimed that four police officers stationed at the Central Police Station in Kumasi had engaged in inappropriate conduct with commercial sex workers during night patrol duties at Asafo, Kumasi.
According to a statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit in the Ashanti Region, the suspect was apprehended “acting on intelligence” by officers from the Police Intelligence Directorate.
During interrogation, Boafo admitted to publishing the video and revealed that he is “a social media content creator who made the allegations solely to attract views and online engagement.”
He further acknowledged that he could not substantiate the claims made against the officers.
The statement also notes that Boafo “acknowledged making comments concerning the President of the Republic for the purpose of content creation and admitted that he could not defend those statements.”
Boafo has been formally charged and detained to assist with further investigations.
The police cautioned the public against spreading false information, particularly on social media, stating that such acts “have the potential to cause unnecessary fear, panic, and reputational damage. Persons found engaging in such conduct will be dealt with in accordance with the law.”
