The 20-time English champions finished 12 points behind the champions Manchester City in 2020-21, but second position was certainly a huge step in the right direction, as they outperformed the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur to claim the runners-up spot.
Solskjaer’s side scored 73 Premier League goals last season – the second-best record in the division behind Man City.
Man United finished the 2020-21 campaign without any silverware, but they made the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, semi-finals of the EFL Cup and final of the Europa League
and United manager Solskjaer having signed a new three-year contract at Old Trafford will be seeking to clinch his 1st trophy with the Red Devils.
There is no question that the club has progressed since the 48-year-old’s arrival.
To augment their squad, Man United have made two standout signings this summer in the shape of Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane.
Sancho, a budding lethal forward with blistering pace and a good footwork is expected to leave Premier League defenders dazed and spinning this season
Varane is expected to pair with Harry Maguire at the back to bring a finality to United’s defensive woes.
After been backed with new signings in the current market, there will be enormous pressure on the Norwegian to oversee a title challenge.
The return of supporters should help Man United’s home form, which was disappointing at certain stages of last season, while they will be determined to continue their impressive run of results on the road.
Man United will open their 2021-22 Premier League campaign with a home game against Leeds United on August 14 before finishing the month with trips to Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
