The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) has called on the Minister of Education (MoE), Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum to fulfill the assurance regarding the release of funds for schools to support their operations.
This reminder comes after a recent Zoom meeting on December 18, 2024, where the Minister made this promise.
In the statement on Monday, December 23, CHASS recalled the Minister’s commitment made during a Zoom meeting on December 18, 2024, where the Minister promised the release of funds to facilitate smooth school operations.
While acknowledging that some schools have received partial disbursements, CHASS noted that many of their institutions have yet to receive the funds owed to them.
They highlighted that arrears for perishable items remain unpaid, and the exclusion of single-track and day schools in the recent disbursements has left these schools grappling with financial challenges.
Additionally, transportation funds for moving food items from distribution centres to schools, as well as funds for utility bills, have not been provided.
CHASS warned that these financial shortfalls could severely impact the smooth functioning of schools and may pose a significant threat to operations as the new term approaches.
The group has called on the Ghana Education Service (GES) to release the necessary funds before the reopening of schools on January 3, 2025.
They emphasised that failure to release the funds could disrupt the academic calendar.
CHASS stated that if the outstanding funds are not disbursed by the reopening date, they will advise against the resumption of the academic calendar.
“We therefore serve formal notice that unless all outstanding monies as stated above are released to schools before the reopening date scheduled for January 3, 2025 , we will advise against the resumption of the academic calendar.”
