Shallie Abbiusi donates to flood victims in Mepe, tours relief camps with Ablakwa

Celebrated on-air personality Shallie Abbiusi has joined the increasing number of benevolent Ghanaians who are showing compassion to victims of floods in the Volta Region.

Shallie alongside Member of Parliament for South Tongu, one of the areas severely affected by the floods, Okudzeto Ablakwa, embarked on a mission to provide aid and support to flood victims in Mepe.

The duo visited two out of the 21 camps, which are currently housed in schools due to the devastating floods that have disrupted education in the area.

During their visit, Shallie, assisted by Mr Ablakwa delivered essential relief items, including clothing and sanitary pads for women, to provide immediate assistance to the vulnerable.

The situation in Mepe remains critical, as a state of emergency has yet to be declared. In response, Shallie took it upon herself to step up and provide crucial aid to the flood victims.

Her efforts seek to raise awareness about the ongoing challenges faced by the community and encourage others to extend a helping hand.

Shallie’s mission goes beyond just helping those in need; the aim is to inspire others to contribute and rally support for the affected communities.

As of Oct. 17, authorities have reported hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced by the flooding, primarily in the Volta Region. South, Central, and North Tongu districts in the Volta Region are amongst the worst affected areas after the Volta River Authority (VRA) conducted a spillage of the Akosombo and Kpong dams due to what it called a “consistent rise in the inflow pattern and water level of the Akosombo dam.”

On the sidelines of the donation, Shallie intimated “I made this visit and donation as a sign of my commitment to helping displaced Ghanaians when the need arises, and this is one of such situations.”

She went on “I will call on all media men, television and radio personalities, celebrities, and public figures to join forces and support the ongoing relief efforts in Mepe and other severely affected communities.”
