The Ghana Journalists Association has made a passionate plea to the warring factions in Bawku to end the cycle of bloodshed and embrace the path of peace.
The ongoing conflict has taken a devastating toll. Some schools have remained closed for days, while others operate with minimal attendance under heavy security. Healthcare services have also been severely disrupted, with patients either turned away or transferred to facilities outside the conflict zone.
Addressing the media, President of the Ghana Journalists Association, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, urged leaders to come together not as enemies, but as brothers united by a shared history and a common future.
“We wish to add our voice to the many calls for peace to prevail in Bawku. We urge all parties involved in the conflict, and indeed all Ghanaians, to actively promote peace and unity in the area. We also express our strong support for the efforts being made by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II toward resolving the conflict.”
“Finally, we advise media practitioners to exercise utmost caution in their reportage and commentary so as not to undermine the ongoing peace process. Media houses must avoid giving their platforms to individuals who may seek to incite unrest or fuel tensions. Let us all contribute to promoting peace in Bawku, because what affects Bawku ultimately affects all of Ghana,” he added.
