The yet to be appointed Special Prosecutor will operate totally independent of the Executive arm of Government, President Akufo-Addo has assured.

In a speech read on his behalf by the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Gloria Akuffo, at the opening ceremony of the International Bar Association African Forum Conference held at the Labadi beach hotel under the theme; “Rising to the Challenge of Africa’s Economic Development – The Role of the Legal Profession”, the President said it is his hope that the work of the Special Prosecutor (SP) will deal with all pending corruption issues in the Public and Private Sectors of the country and subsequently act as a deterrent to all Public Office holders.

IBA

The International Bar Association, established in 1947, is the world’s leading organization of international legal practitioners, bar associations, and law societies. The IBA influences the development of international law reform and shapes the future of the legal profession throughout the world.

It has a membership of more than 80,000 individual lawyers and more than 190 bar associations and law societies spanning over 160 countries. It has considerable expertise in providing assistance to the global legal community.

The principal aims and objectives of the IBA are: to promote an exchange of information between legal associations worldwide, to support the independence of the judiciary and the right of lawyers to practice their profession without interference. The IBA also engages in human rights advocacy for lawyers worldwide through its Human Rights InstituteA

IBA African Forum

The three-day conference taking place in Ghana from 15th to 17th November 2017 is presented by the IBA African Regional Forum with the support of the Ghana Bar Association. The topics to be discussed include; The challenges of resolving business disputes in Africa, The practice of Law on a rising continent and Emerging practice areas to meet the needs of Africa’s economic growth amongst others.
