‘Symbol of unity’: Paul Afoko calls for party cohesion during Savannah Regional tour

Emphasizing his "3R" agenda of Reunite, Rebuild, and Recapture, the NPP chairmanship hopeful urges grassroots discipline as the path to victory in 2028.

A National Chairmanship hopeful Paul Afoko has urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Savannah Region to prioritize internal cohesion as a foundational step toward securing victory in the 2028 general elections.

During a consultative meeting at the party’s regional secretariat in Damongo, Mr. Afoko addressed regional executives, the Council of Elders, and party patrons on the urgent need to bridge internal divides.

His visit, part of a wider national tour, focused on the theme of institutional renewal following periods of internal friction.

For many local leaders, the engagement served as a platform for reconciliation.

One regional executive noted the shift in tone during the meeting, stating, “I am inspired to put certain things behind me.”

The executive added that the current approach had successfully transitioned the regional mood from lingering grievances to a focus on practical strategy.

Another executive emphasized the perceived significance of Mr. Afoko’s return to active leadership, telling him, “You have become a symbol of unity for the NPP considering what you have gone through. Your second coming is a blessing to the party.”

The “3R” Agenda

Mr. Afoko used the forum to outline his “3R” agenda—Reunite, Rebuild, and Recapture. He cautioned the gathering that organizational unity is hollow without a tactical plan for governance.

He specifically called for a return to disciplined grassroots mobilization, emphasizing that the party must strengthen its polling station structures and improve voter data management well in advance of the election year.

“The NPP’s strength is that we absorb setbacks and return to fight smarter,” Mr. Afoko said. “That’s how we can take back government in 2028, and it starts with discipline in regions like Savannah.”

The meeting concluded with a call for a non-negotiable mission to reclaim power from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), with participants pledging to work toward a unified front that ensures no region feels marginalized within the party structure.

The Savannah Region visit marks a significant stop in Mr. Afoko’s campaign, as he seeks to consolidate support by advocating for a strategy of rebuilding the party from the base up.
