The Vitting Old Student’s Association is demanding immediate action to tackle what they describe as the life-threatening water crises in the Northern regional capital Tamale.
According to the association, the situation caused by a disconnection exercise by the Ghana Water Company Limited is negatively impacting academic teaching and learning as students trek long distances for water.
Speaking to Starr News, President of the Vitting Old Students Association, Alhaji Thomas Pang expressed grave concern over the ongoing crisis.
“We believe we cannot place all the blame on Minister for Education Haruna Iddrisu, as we are unaware of the resources available to him. However, now that he is serving as both the Minister for Education and Member of Parliament for Tamale South, we hope that the ongoing water crisis, which has become life-threatening, will receive the attention it urgently requires. Many students are compelled to leave school and spend long hours queuing at a single borehole in the area. Some take advantage of this situation to leave school without permission and engage in other social vices,” he said.
The association is calling on government to urgently address the crisis, warning that the situation demands immediate attention to prevent further escalation.
