Busua Beach Resort, a popular hotel in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region risks being closed down by the Ghana Tourism Authority for non-payment of tourism levy.
The resort owes the GTA a whopping GHC70,000 and has only managed to pay GHC10,000 out of the debt.
Empire News is reliably informed that the debt which is one per cent of the tourism levy has accumulated since 2012.
Two officers dispatched to the area Ruth Akyeamah Ankrah and Kwasi Frimpong after series of negotiations with Busua authorities after consulting their bosses have given the popular three-star hotel Thursday to pay fifty-three thousand cedis to avert the closure of the facility.
Ghana Tourism Authority in the Western Region has embarked on an exercise to retrieve over GHC489,000 from some 115 tourism facilities in the Western Region for defaulting on the 1% Tourism Levy payment.
When the team arrived at African Beach, another popular hotel and restaurant in Takoradi also could not settle it’s GHC37,000 debt and is due to be closed down after failing to submit a proper payment plan.
Leader of the delegation, Prince Yaw Essah, earlier at a news conference said they are also enforcing quality standards among tourism facilities.
