Some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Tarka-Nsuaem Constituency in the Western Region have hit the streets to protest alleged manipulation, systemic exclusion, and a blatant disregard for party rules in the ongoing internal executive elections.
The aggrieved party members – youth, stakeholders, and grassroots loyalists – in the massive, peaceful demonstration publicly condemned what they described as the “hijacking” of the local party machinery.
The group stated in a press statement released following the protest that happenings in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem constituency subvert rules for the internal executive elections set by the National Leadership of the party.
The group’s spokesperson, Ampoful Adu Narkaah, detailed a litany of irregularities that have derailed the process
“From the registration exercise through the filing of nominations, vetting processes, and polling station elections, several committed party members have suffered unjustifiable exclusion, arbitrary disqualifications, intimidation, suppression, and discriminatory treatment…,” he alleged.
The aggrieved members noted that formal petitions and internal complaints submitted to both constituency and regional leadership were completely ignored, creating a toxic atmosphere of mistrust and division among the party faithful.
They maintained that their public protest is not an attempt to undermine or sabotage the party insisting their actions are driven by a desire to protect the foundational democratic ideals, fairness, and unity of the NPP.
“We firmly believe that genuine unity cannot be achieved where injustice, intimidation, exclusion, and manipulation are allowed to prevail,” the statement noted.
The demonstrators have directly petitioned the National Leadership, the National Council, and the National Elections Committee to intervene immediately.
They among other things demanded an independent investigation into the conduct of the electoral processes leading to the polling station elections within the constituency; the annulment of results and processes found to have violated the Party’s electoral guidelines and fresh, transparent elections in all areas within the constituency in accordance with the polling station election guidelines, under the trusted supervision of the National
Elections Committee.
Other demands are equal treatment, fairness, and protection for all party members irrespective of factional affiliations and immediate steps to restore unity, trust, and confidence among the grassroots of the Party.
