The Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central Isaac Adongo has labelled President Akufo-Addo as “undemocratic” and a threat to the newly elected executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Freddie Blay was elected as national chairman of the NPP on July 8 by the party’s delegates, shelving-off competition from Stephen Ntim and Dr. Amoako Baah. Also, the acting General Secretary John Boadu was elected to the substantive position, while Sammi Awuku was elevated to the National Organiser of position of the party.
Commenting on the conference that elected the aforementioned individuals and a host of others to steer the affairs of the ruling party for the next four years on Starr Chat Wednesday, Mr. Adongo wondered if they would be allowed to serve their respective terms of office in full, citing the removal of Paul Afoko, Kwabena Agyepong and Sammy Crabbe from their positions after winning the posts.
“This is a president that doesn’t know democracy. The president started firing his executives that were elected at the last conference…and today, he has carried into government firing EC commissioners left, right and center,” he told Starr Chat host Bola Ray.
According to him, President Akufo-Addo undemocratic nature would stifle the party’s executives from being efficient, making it difficult for them to challenge him on matters bothering the progress of the party for fear of suffering similar fate as Afoko and his colleagues
“…A non-democratic president can change your party’s leadership any day and I can assure you those people who have spent a lot of money, they should be praying because this man is undemocratic,” he added.
The Bolgatanga lawmaker further noted all constitutional bodies that are supposed to be independent are “reeling under the autocratic” rule of President Akufo-Addo, citing the Bank of Ghana and the Electoral Commission as a case study.
