As part of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s manifesto on industrialization, former President John Dramani Mahama has renewed his commitment to revive the Tumu Cotton Factory if elected in the December 7 general elections.

Addressing a gathering in Tumu, Sissala East constituency, during his campaign tour of the Upper West Region, Mahama highlighted the historical importance of the Tumu cotton ginnery, which was once a thriving economic hub for cotton farming in the region. He recalled how the factory had provided financial benefits for the local community through cotton production.

“The Tumu cotton ginnery, when operational, was a source of income for many farmers. Cotton production used to be a profitable venture, and it contributed significantly to the local economy,” Mahama said. “We will revive this industry, making cotton farming more commercially viable, and ensure it drives economic transformation in the area.”

Mahama emphasized that if elected, his administration would prioritize investments to make the cotton industry more efficient and attractive to investors. He also mentioned that the revived factory would be under private management to ensure better operational efficiency and sustainability.

“We want the cotton industry in Sissala East and Sissala West to thrive again. This revival will create jobs for the youth, providing them with stable incomes,” he added.

This pledge forms part of Mahama’s broader plan to stimulate industrialization and job creation across Ghana, aligning with his party’s vision of economic transformation through agro-processing and manufacturing.
