VIDEO: NDC intercepts another batch of alleged stolen gov’t fertilizers

The NDC’s Joseph Yammin-led “Operation Recover All State Looted Assets” has intercepted a significant quantity of alleged government fertilizers at the residence of the Fomena District Chief Executive in the Ashanti Region through an intelligence operation.

The Fomena DCE, Eric Kwaku Kusi, confirmed to GHOne News Ashanti Regional Correspondent Isaac Justice Bediako that the fertilizers were brought to his house for safekeeping by the Member of Parliament for the Fomena Constituency, who also serves as the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Andrew Asiamah, two days before the 2024 elections.

He explained: “My MP told me the fertilizers were brought for his campaign activities, but they arrived late. So, he asked me to keep them in my house, promising to collect them after the elections for distribution to farmers. That’s all. I even called the MP to speak with the NDC security team that came here”.

According to the NDC Ashanti Regional Youth Organizer, Osman Nabali, the interception was based on the same intelligence that led to the discovery of over 10,000 fertilizers stored in uncompleted buildings in Sokoban and Danyame residential areas last week.

Nabali described the hoarding of the government-supplied fertilizers as unfortunate.

The Second Deputy Speaker, who spoke with the team, confirmed that the fertilizers belonged to him but declined to provide further details over the phone.

Nabali alleged that the fertilizers, purchased by the outgoing government to support farmers and reduce the cost of food production, were found stored at the location just days before the elections.

“We visited the site and confirmed that the fertilizers were hidden there. It raises questions about whether the house belongs to him or someone connected to him,” Nabali stated.

The NDC youth leader expressed disappointment over the alleged act, claiming it is part of a broader scheme by individuals in the outgoing administration to sabotage the incoming government.

“Instead of distributing these fertilizers to farmers as planned, they’ve hoarded them to sell at exorbitant prices later. This is a deliberate attempt to make the new government suffer,” Nabali alleged.

He further criticized the move, stating that it undermines efforts to support farmers and provide affordable food for Ghanaians.

“The government spent huge sums to acquire these fertilizers to boost agriculture, but some people are prioritizing personal gain over national interest. Farmers are being denied resources meant to help them succeed,” he said.

Nabali called on authorities to take swift action, urging the incoming administration to ensure accountability and protect government resources. He also highlighted the need to investigate similar practices across the country.

“These actions are unacceptable, especially from someone in a leadership position. This isn’t just an NDC issue; it’s about protecting Ghana’s interests,” he concluded.
