A fatal accident on the Nkawkaw–Accra highway has claimed the life of a taxi driver following a collision with a VIP bus, reigniting concerns over the poor condition of the road.

The crash happened on Thursday morning, September 5, 2025, around 9:00 a.m. between Jejeti and Sekyere, a stretch that cuts across the Kwahu West Municipal Assembly and Atiwa East District in the Eastern Region.

The accident involved a VIP bus with registration number AK 9090-20 and a Vitz taxi with registration number GB 5273-22.

According to eyewitnesses who spoke to Agoo News’ Esinam Agbo, the VIP bus driver attempted to swerve potholes but veered into the lane of the oncoming taxi, leading to a head-on collision. The taxi driver died instantly.

The impact pushed the taxi off the road into the bush. Officers from the Nkawkaw Fire Service retrieved the lifeless body of the driver, while the injured VIP bus driver was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
