The Wholesome Mind Xperience has entered into a strategic partnership with the Mental Health Authority (MHA) of Ghana, supported by the World Health Organization (WHO), to strengthen mental health education and improve care systems nationwide ahead of the 2025 Wholesome Mind Summit.

The summit, scheduled for Friday, October 10, 2025, at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra, coinciding with World Mental Health Day, will be held under the theme “Mental Health Awareness for All Ages: Catastrophes and Emergencies in Focus.”

The event will bring together mental health professionals, caregivers, advocates, doctors, families, and policymakers to discuss strategies for improving Ghana’s mental health response systems. The programme will include panel discussions, educational sessions, and mindfulness activities designed to promote open dialogue and mental well-being.

A major highlight of this year’s initiative is a collaborative project to rebuild the Special Ward of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital into Ghana’s first Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) – a facility designed to provide safe, dignified, and effective care for individuals experiencing acute mental health crises.

Lady-Ann Essuman, Managing Attorney of VINT & Aletheia Attorneys and Consultants, the organizers of the Wholesome Mind Summit, described the initiative as a concrete step toward improving the lives of people with mental health conditions.

“This partnership bolsters our mission to not only raise awareness but to create real change in the lives of people living with mental health conditions,” she stated. “We are very particular about the refurbishment of the Special Ward as it is a step toward ensuring that care is delivered in a way that respects dignity and human rights.”

Dr. Eugene K. Dordoye, Chief Executive of the Mental Health Authority, emphasized the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors in improving national mental health outcomes.

“Mental health is a public health priority,” he said. “Working together allows us to increase access to education, strengthen care systems, and create lasting impact across communities. This year’s focus on integrating mental health into the management of national crises, disasters, and emergencies is both timely and essential.”

He also expressed gratitude to the World Health Organization for its consistent support in advancing Ghana’s mental health mission.

The 2025 Wholesome Mind Summit is being spearheaded by VINT & Aletheia Attorneys and Consultants, who are also leading a national and global fundraising campaign to mobilize individuals, corporations, and development partners in support of the refurbishment project and wider mental health education efforts.

The partnership underscores a shared commitment to breaking stigma, improving access to care, and promoting dignity in mental health treatment across Ghana.
