Black Queens coach, Yussif Basigi, has observed that all eyes will be on his team to win the African Women’s Cup of Nations in Cameroon, but his ladies will not play under pressure.
Basigi is aiming to be the first coach to win the tournament as a coach. The Queens had never lifted the modern trophy for the AFCON in 1998 and wants to make history this time round.
“Though a lot is expected from us, I don’t see it as pressure because every team coming to Cameroon would want to have a go at us but we know remaining at the top is never going to be easy.
“We have communicated that to the team and we want to keep our high standard. We want to respect the other teams because there are no smaller teams again in football but we are not under any pressure to deliver”, he told Starr Sports.
The team left Accra en-route to Cameroon Wednesday with 21 players and 11 officials and Ghana FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi enjoined the team to strive hard to win the tournament for the first time.
