Zuckerberg responds to allegations of ‘Profit Over People’

In the wake of the various whistleblower allegations against the Facebook Inc brand, the Chief Executive of the company, Mark Zuckerberg has responded to the accusations.

There has been a recurring narrative that the company has been prioritising profit over its users, an allegation the Facebook henchman vehemently denied.

Zuckerberg on Wednesday during Facebook’s third quarter earnings claims the accusations against his company with a wave of bad press was led by “a coordinated effort to selectively use leaked documents to paint a false picture of our company.”

The Facebook CEO used the opportunity of the event to enumerate the extensive list of accomplishments the social-media company has taken into account to maintain safety and security, in addition to projects that have already been set into motion with a valuation of $5 million in 2021 alone.

“It makes a good soundbite to say that we don’t solve these impossible trade-offs because we’re just focused on making money, but the reality is these questions are not primarily about our business, but about balancing difficult social values,” he addressed the allegations.

He also noted that Facebook has been acting and leading by example to pave the way for other companies to mirror Facebook’s contemplation towards its own conduct and throughout the meeting, he heaped blames on the media, and some lawmakers.

“If social media is not the main driver of these issues, then it probably can’t fix them by itself either,” he said during the call.

“I’ve repeatedly called for regulation to provide clarity because I don’t think companies should be making so many of these decisions ourselves,” he added.

TechBooky recalls and had reported that a former employee of the California based company, Frances Haugen had first as a whistleblower and then after revealing her identity alleged that Facebook was putting profit ahead of the well-being of its users. She further sent some leaked documents to the Wall Street Journal, highlighting the company’s misconducts as relating to the prioritization of monetary growth. She further testified before the U.S Congress, insisting on the allegations.

Another anonymous whistleblower had on Friday informed the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) about Facebook’s endless disregard for worries surrounding the spread of hate speech, together with rolling out false information out of phobia for jeopardized monetary growth.

Zuckerberg rubbished all the claims, insisting it’s not within the capacity of his company to alter the underlying media dynamics, noting that his main focus is to ensure the well-being of Facebook’s users and not the Press, in spite of what various news mediums may be saying.

“The reason we’ve been able to succeed for almost two decades is because we keep evolving and building. Facebook started in a dorm room and grew into a global website. We invented the News Feed and a new kind of ads platform. We became a mobile-first experience. And then we grew a whole family of apps that serve billions of people,” he stated.
